It's often been said that there is great power in numbers. And there's nary a better application for this adage than when a group of people commit to learning anything and everything about a given topic through diligent, ongoing, long-term study. Of course, I'm describing the vehicle known as the investment club.
Perhaps there's no greater example of the power of the club than when its members go into "detective mode" — on the hunt for the companies and industries that will prove to be five or ten-baggers, as Peter Lynch would say, down the road. Pencils sharpened, antennae in "ready-alert" mode, partners are poised and able to cover some pretty impressive ground. But in order to be effective, this enthusiasm needs to be paired with a detailed plan of action.
