Prepare SSGs with Take Stock

The Take Stock tool at StockCentral is one of the easiest ways to analyze a stock — just enter a ticker symbol and the program does the rest! In the default judgment mode, the program uses strict guidelines to evaluate the strength and consistency of a company's past growth and then applies conservative rules to forecast future growth and range of prices. Few companies pass Take Stock's unbending criteria and are judged to be reasonable candidates for your portfolio. Take Stock is designed to use this "better safe than sorry" approach to protect neophyte stock investors from investing in companies with poor historical fundamentals, no matter what the reason for that underperformance.

To gain a better understanding of all the decision points that go into completing a stock study in Take Stock, investors can use the Wizard. The Wizard allows you to override the various judgment values employed in completing a study, useful if you have an understanding of how a company's future fundamentals may differ from recent historical results. Advanced investors can also use the Edit Judgment feature to review and override the default judgment decisions made by Take Stock.

We have just updated the Take Stock program with a feature that will allow users to generate a completed Stock Selection Guide (SSG) from Take Stock, as well as the original Technamental Stock Study Worksheet (TSSW) form. The SSG form will use the default or edited judgment values to complete the stock study, as selected by the user.

Users may also save their completed Take Stock studies to a portfolio on the site, then keep up to date on changes in the Growth, Mood, or Price Range of their companies.

Visit Take Stock at StockCentral to demo or use the tool to analyze your favorite company, instantly!

How Clubs Can See Eye to Eye
Without Being Face to Face

by Doug Gerlach,
President, ICLUBcentral Inc.

At the 1964 World's Fair in New York City, AT&T's Bell Labs captured the popular imagination with the Picturephone, the first major videophone product and service that allowed two-way communication with real-time moving images appearing on both ends of the telephone line. The Picturephone never caught on commercially, and in fact the videophone probably never reached any greater popularity than it did in its incarnation as the VisaPhone in the cartoon household of the Jetson family.

Today, the idea of a dedicated videophone device has been practically abandoned. For corporate offices, there are plenty of (pricey) videoconferencing tools and services that enable boardrooms of executives to share their smiling mugs. Though some mobile phones incorporate video calling, individual users are more likely to turn to their computers using free or low-cost programs such as Google Chat or Skype.

That isn't to say that video-augmented communications has gone away entirely — it's just that there's been a growing recognition that it isn't as important to see the person on the line as it is to be able to share computer content in real time with members of a group. If you can show a slideshow presentation, edit a document dynamically or demonstrate how to use a website or software program, then you can really enlighten those on the receiving end.

As a result, collaborative online meeting tools have really matured in recent years. This development has made it easy for groups — including investment clubs — to simultaneously view the same computer screen, both for small groups that may work interactively on a project or in webinar presentations to large groups from a single presenter.

There are a number of free and low-cost tools that may be of interest to investment clubs that can help with alternative methods of conducting meetings over long distances.

New Investor Advisory Service Website Launched

Our Investor Advisory Service newsletter has long been considered one of the best-kept secrets when it comes to top-performing stock market publications. Named for the past two years to the Hulbert Financial Digest's Investment Newsletter Honor Roll for outstanding performance over the long term, the IAS has been known to only a select relatively few subscribers.

As part of our efforts to reach many more subscribers with our commonsense stock investing approach, we have created a brand new website for IAS with a new, easy-to-remember address: www.InvestorAdvisoryService.com.

As of the July 2011 edition, subscribers can log in and view the current issue and archives on the site. Of particular note to current subscribers is a new feature that has been much requested over the years: Search! The Search feature will assist you in finding references to particular companies in the IAS archives.
