Security Valuations & Online Quotes
What are Security Valuations and why should I enter them?
A valuation is the dollar value of a single share of a security owned by the club on a specific date.
The more frequently you enter valuations, the more accurate Club Accounting's
calculations will be. You should enter valuations for all securities owned by the club at
least once a month as close to the club's meeting date as possible. If your club
meets less frequently than once a month, you should still enter valuations at least once a
month. You can enter valuations more frequently if you wish.
If you do not enter valuations frequently, some of the information produced on reports may
not be as accurate as it would be if you had entered valuations often. This is because the
software's calculations will not have enough information to work with.
- The club members will not know whether the value of their investments is increasing or decreasing.
- You will not be able to print an accurate Valuation Statement if there are no recent valuation dates from which to choose.
- The software will not be able calculate return figures accurately unless it has frequent valuations to work with.
- The values of the members' units will be less accurate if the current files do not contain frequent valuations.
- You will not be able to use the Distribute task to distribute the tax liabilities unless you have valued the securities on December 31.
I cannot get valuations for my companies...
I cannot get online quotes for my stocks...
Online prices don't work...
ICLUBcentral has just upgraded its provider of stock quotes to Commodity Systems, Inc. (CSI), one of the largest providers of financial data to financial websites. CSI provides stock data for Yahoo!, Microsoft, and other major financial portals. This change affects both NAIC Club Accounting for Windows (NCA) and NAIC Online Club Accounting (NOCA).
What this means for you is more consistent stock valuations that better accord with stock data you'll find on major websites. To reduce confusion caused by multiple intraday prices, we've also switched to end-of-day stock quotes from 20-minute delayed stock quotes. Stock quotes will now be updated by 9:00pm EST every evening with the closing market prices for NYSE, NASDAQ, and AMEX securities.
To gain ongoing access to automatic stock valuations, you'll need to update to NCA version 2.3. This is a free update that includes not only the upgraded quote provider but also some improvements in reports and a speedier distributions process.
