Classic Plus no longer prints

There are two reasons Classic Plus may not print:

  • The software is not fully up to date
  • The software is up to date, but a required .dll did not register correctly

UPDATING CLASSIC PLUS:

  • Go to HELP > CHECK FOR UPDATES to download latest update.
  • After the latest update is installed, restart classic, and try printing again.

REGISTERING THE PRINTING DLL:

If you are using Windows XP:

  • Click on START > RUN
  • Type regsvr32 C:\windows\system32\vbprndlg.dll
  • Click OK

If you are using Windows Vista:

  • With all programs closed, click the WINDOWS button on the lower left corner of your screen.
  • Left-click ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES
  • Right-click COMMAND PROMPT and then left-click RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.
  • Type regsvr32 C:\windows\system32\vbprndlg.dll
  • Click OK If successful you will receive a message telling you the .dll succeeded. If you do not get this message, repeat the process and check your text for errors.

I get an error "Cannot load company"

If you try to download new stock information and see an error Cannot load company: No ticker selected to process, this means Classic Plus does not currently have a list of companies to choose from. To correct this, take the following steps:

  • First, click OK on the Error message, and then CANCEL on the Open Company window.
  • Next, go to Options > Preferences and make sure your data service login and password is filled in. (Call 877-275-6242 to confirm your subscription details if you are not sure what to fill in)
  • With your information filled in, go back to the Open Company window
  • Click the Get Current Index button to download the most recent list of companies.
  • When this is complete, enter a company name or ticker symbol, or scroll through the company list to select the company you want.
  • Click OK

Runtime Out of Memory, or SSLstBar.ocx missing

If you get an error message which says "RUNTIME OUT OF MEMORY" or indicates that "SSLstBar.ocx" is missing or invalid, take the following steps:

  • Right-click on this link and choose the option to save the file.
  • Choose the option to save the file to a place you can easily find; most commonly this will be the Desktop.
  • When the file is done downloading, close your web browser, and find the file; it will be named sslstbar.ocx
  • Right-click on the file, then left-click the option to copy
  • Go to MY COMPUTER > C: > WINDOWS > SYSTEM32 (If you are using Windows 2000 or were using Windows 2000 and installed a newer system on top of this, please check instead for C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32.)
  • From the Edit menu, select Paste (In Windows Vista, the Paste option has moved to the Organize menu)

Once the file is downloaded, you should be able to open Classic.

NOTE: If you have Prospector, it may not run after applying the fix. However, reinstalling Prospector will allow both to run with no problems.
This solution also fixes problems with opening Classic after installing NAIC Stock Analyst (NSA).


My Wizard is no longer speaking !

There are four possible reasons the Stock Wiz may not be available or speaking:

  • The volume on your computer is turned off or set too low.
  • The voice generator program is not installed.
  • The Microsoft Agent Core Components are not installed.
  • Speech Application Programming Interface (SAPI 4.0) has not been installed (only affects Windows XP)

VOLUME:

First check that your volume is turned on and you can hear ordinary windows sounds (check this at Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds).

VOICE GENERATOR PROGRAM:

If you can play other sounds but the Stock Wiz remains obdurately silent, please download the voice generator program again and re-install it. Point your browser to:

From the pull-down menu under the text-to speech engines heading, choose "L & H True Voice ... -- American English", the first option. Then click on "Download selected engine". When it has downloaded fully, please double-click on it to start the re-installation. Your Stock Wiz should then work properly.

MICROSOFT AGENT CORE COMPONENTS:

If this fails, you may need to re-install Microsoft agent core components for your particular version of Windows. MS Agent software, which we use to generate the animated Stock Wiz, is available at:

If possible, we suggest to right-click on the link and choose the option to run the file, as it is small, even for a dial-up connection

SAPI 4.0:

Microsoft Agent uses SAPI 4.0 to provide speech services. Windows XP and above however ship with SAPI 5.0 or higher -- which, unfortunately, doesn't work the same way. Fortunately, SAPI 4.0 and SAPI 5.0 can co-exist together on the same Windows XP computer.
