Moving Toolkit information or database from a non-working copy to a fresh install

This note assumes that for whatever reason, you are not able to open/start your primary copy of Toolkit, and need to get your information out of the program. If your primary copy of Toolkit is working, we strongly suggest to use the FAQ at:
https://www.iclub.com/faq/Home/Article?id=239 instead.

Backing Up Your Data:

  1. -For Windows 10: Tap the key with the Windows logo, on your keyboard > Type This PC > Click or select the This PC app.
    1. For Windows 8: Right-click at the very bottom left hand corner of the computer screen, and select File Explorer from the menu that comes up.
    2. For Windows Windows 7: Go to Start > Computer
  2. This will open a window showing all of the drives your copy of Windows know about.
  3. Open the C: drive (sometimes named Local Disk C, or (OS C:)). From there, open Program Files (x86) > ICLUBcentral > Toolkit 6
  4. In the Toolkit folder, look for files that have .mdb and/or .ldb at the end.
  5. The database file is usually named TK.mdb, while TK.ldb keeps track of what portfolios you have set up.
If you have made a new copy of your database at some point, the TK.mdb file may may have a series of numbers as part of the name. If you aren't sure, take the same steps for all .mdb and .ldb files.
  6. If you don't see anything with those extensions at the end, here's how to get the extensions to show up.
-In Windows 10 (and 8): Click the View Tab, then click the 'File name extensions' check-box.
-For Windows 7: Click on Tools at the top of your screen. Then click Folder Options.
----For Windows 7, This will open a new window. Click the View tab in this new window, then look down the list for Hide Extensions for Known File Types. Uncheck it and click OK. You should now see the extensions .mdb and .ldb on some of the files.
  7. Once you have the .mdb files showing, take the following steps:
Right click on the file, and choose Copy
    Minimize the window
Right-click on the Desktop, and choose Paste

Now from here, you'll need to get the data on to a CD, or USB drive, or something else portable that you can move from one computer to another. For most copies of Windows this will be pretty easy. That said, lots of drives will have their own software, or specific setup. As always, check any documentation that you may have.

Copying Data off the Computer:

  1. Make sure that your CD, USB, or portable drive is set up, or plugged in.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Send To (If you copied both a .mdb and a .ldb, you can repeat the following steps for each file separately)
  3. Select the CD, USB, or portable drive you want to use.
  4. If you are using a USB or other portable drive, this should take a second or two, and you will be ready to go; if you are using a CD, Windows will normally take you through a few steps to make sure that the information is copied on to the CD. Once this is done, you should be able to remove the CD.
  5. If you haven't done so already, make sure that you have installed, registered and updated Toolkit on the new computer before you get any further.

Getting Data Into the New Computer:

  1. Make sure that your CD, USB, or portable drive is set up, or plugged in.
  2. Go to the Start menu, and select either Computer or My Computer
  3. When this opens, you will see a list of all the drives connected to the computer; double click on the one for the CD or USB drive that you are using. If you're not sure, a quick double-click will open the drive and show if there's anything there.
  4. Once you have the drive open, right-click on the file, and choose Copy. As with the steps for backing up, you can repeat this process if you have both the .mdb and .ldb files.
  5. Go to Start > C: > Program Files(x86) > ICLUBcentral > Toolkit6
  6. Click Edit, or Organize, and choose Paste.
  7. Windows will usually ask if you want to copy over the existing file; choose yes.
  8. Once the computer is done copying the file(s) you can open Toolkit, and use all of your existing information.
