Issue: How do I enter the CenturyTel and EMBARQ merger?

Cause: In July 2009, CenturyTel and EMBARQ performed a merger. EMBARQ shareholders received 1.37 shares of CenturyTel common stock for each EMBARQ common share owned.

Resolution:
This is straight-forward merger with the surviving company CenturyTel. If you owned CenturyTel shares this merger has no accounting changes you need to enter. 

CenturyTel intends to change its name to CenturyLink.

The information you will need to enter this merger is listed below.

1. Date of transaction: completed July 1, 2009
2. Old or Merging company: EMBARQ
3. New Security: CenturyTel (symbol CTL)
4. Shares Received: (EMBARQ shares owned) x 1.37 . For example, if you owned 100 EMBARQ shares you would receive 100 x 1.37 = 137 CenturyTel shares.
5. Price per Share: CTL opened 7/1/2009 at 31.25.
6. Cash Received: This is the cash-in-lieu you received. This information should be on your broker statement.

When you have entered the data save the transaction. 

If you were charged a reorganization fee, enter this as a return of capital distribution. The amount would be the negative number of the amount charged. ( $20 fee enter as -20)
