How Do I Open An SSG I Have on My Computer?
With an increase in files being sent back and forth, it's good to know how to tell Windows what programs to use for opening your ssg's
- In Stock Analyst, go to OPTIONS > PREFERENCES.
- In the Preferences Window, Click the FILE ASSOCIATIONS tab.
- On the File Associations tab, click to put a check mark next to SDF, and SSG.
- Click APPLY and then OK.
- Close Stock Analyst. For most copies of Windows this is all that you will need to do to make it so that double-clicking on an SSG file will automatically open Stock Analyst, and display the SSG.
NOTE:
We have found that some members will need to restart their computers for the change to take effect. If you follow the steps above, and Windows still asks you what program to open an SSG with, try restarting the computer first.
If you find Stock Analyst opening slowly, or not at all, try the following: Open Stock Analyst first, minimize it, then try opening the SSG file.
How Do I Export or Save an SSG From Stock Analyst?
- In Stock Analyst, go to FILE > EXPORT > SSG DATA to open the Export SSG Datafiles window.
- On the left hand side of the Export SSG Datafiles window, click to select the stock you want to export. (If you want to export multiple stocks at once, hold down the Ctrl key on the keyboard; while doing this, each stock you click on will be selected.)
- Once you have selected your stock(s), double-click C:\ On the right-hand side of the window, under the Directory heading.
- Find and double-click on the following folders in the list under C:\ Documents and Settings > [your Windows user name] > Desktop In Windows Vista, use: Users > [your Windows user name] > Desktop
- With Desktop selected, click START EXPORT
- Once the files have been exported, you can use any standard email program to send them out.
Why do I get a message indicating either "no email" or "incomplete or missing SSG" when trying to download SSG data?
This error appears when you attempt to get company information automatically and you have not yet entered your login information for OPS. If you already have an OPS subscription, here's how to enter your name and password:
- In Stock Analyst, select Options > Preferences.
- Select the General tab.
- Enter your login for the BetterInvesting data service (very often your member number, despite the box being labled email)
- Enter your OPS password in the box labled Password.
- Click OK.
If you are an OPS subscriber, you can check your password and OPS status at http://www.better-investing.org. If you have forgotten your password, the "Forgot your password?" link will help you recover it.
If you can login on the NAIC web site, enter a ticker symbol at the top of the page. If you are not permitted access to the OPS company page on the site, then you are not set as an OPS subscriber in their records and should contact NAIC for assistance. If you can't login, contact NAIC at 1-877-275-6242
If you're not not an OPS subscriber (or want to learn more about the service), visit http://store.yahoo.com/betterinvesting/comgroupmem.html. NAIC will then help you set up an account with OPS, including a password required to download data into NSA.
Why is sector information missing when I import an SSG from OPS?
Stock Analyst utilizes NAIC's Online Premium Services (OPS) to download up-to-date information on your securities. At this time, OPS does not import a company's sector information. This information must be entered manually. To enter sector information:
- First, open a company by selecting the name on the Companies list.
- Click the Data Entry icon. (3rd from the right - looks like a keyboard).
- Under the Company Info tab, select the sector from the Sector pull-down menu.
- Click Update Data.
- Click OK.
What reference material is available for Stock Analyst?
You can find the manual in .PDF format after installing the software on your computer.
In Windows, go to START > PROGRAMS > NAIC SOFTWARE >STOCK ANALYST > NSA MANUAL.
In addition, you can download an extraordinarily helpful tip sheet.
