There are two reasons we have seen for the message "Unable to launch Toolkit 6. Please launch ToolKit6Server.exe manually"; the first is if Toolkit recently tried to perform a software update, and for some reason it was not able to finish. The second reason is if the Toolkit Server has been disabled or removed by a security program.
If you think that Toolkit may have been trying to do an update, and simply been interrupted, please click here for steps on how to complete the update.
If you think that the Toolkit 6 Server may have been disabled / removed, or if you have already tried the steps for completing an update, and found that they do not apply, please click here.
Finishing a Toolkit update:
If Toolkit has been working correctly, and no new security software has been installed since the last time Toolkit was used, the most likely reason for the error message is that Toolkit tried to do an update, and was not able to.
The most common reason for this is that the dpi setting on Windows was set higher than 96dpi. Depending on your version of Windows, the steps to adjust the DPI will be slightly different.
Before using any of the steps below, please re-start your computer. Restarting will make sure there are no parts of Toolkit still running in the background.
Please click your version of Windows, listed below, to show or hide specific steps for adjusting dpi settings.
Windows 2000 or XP
- Exit the software.
- Go to START > CONTROL PANEL > DISPLAY >SETTINGS > ADVANCED.
- Set the font size to 96 DPI, also called NORMAL.
- Click OK, and then OK again.
- At this point, please restart the computer.
- When the computer comes back on, go to START > COMPUTER (or MY COMPUTER) > C: > PROGRAM FILES > ICLUBcentral > Toolkit6.
- Double-click on Toolkit6Updater. This should start the update process. If the update finishes, click the Done button, and Toolkit will start as normal.
If the desktop icons seem a bit small after this change, the following steps can be used to change their size
- Right Click Desktop, then choose “Properties”
- In the Properties Window click on the “Appearance Tab” at the top.
- In the Appearance Window click on the button called “Advanced”
- In the Advanced Appearance Window choose “Item:” from the drop down list and choose “Icon” and you can choose desired Icon size. The default in most cases will be 32. While you can set the number to anything you want, the way Windows is set up, you'll generally want to go to 40, 48, or 56.
- Click OK, and then Apply to have Windows adjust the size of the icons.
- A nice feature here is that if you want to adjust the size up or down, you can repeat steps 3- 5 to test different sizes.
Windows Vista
- Exit the software.
- Right-click any open space on the desktop, and choose PERSONALIZE then ADJUST FONT SIZE (on the left hand side of the new window).
- This will open a new window; Any dpi setting that Vista has used in the past will show up here as a selectable button.
- Click on the button next to Default Mode (96 DPI) and click OK.
- At this point, please restart the computer.
- When the computer comes back on, go to START > COMPUTER > C: > PROGRAM FILES (or Program Files x86) > ICLUBcentral > Toolkit6.
- Double-click on Toolkit6Updater. This should start the update process. If the update finishes, click the Done button, and Toolkit will start as normal.
If the desktop icons seem a bit small after this change, you can right-click on the desktop, choose View, and then choose a larger size icon.
Windows 7
- Exit the software.
- Right-click any open space on the desktop, and choose PERSONALIZE
- Near the bottom left-hand corner of the Personalize window, select DISPLAY
- On main part of the Display page, click to select Smaller - 100% (default)
- Windows will usually ask you to log out or re-start at this point. If it does not, click APPLY
- If windows tells you that you need to either log out, or restart please do so.
- Once you are signed back in, or the computer comes back on, go to START > COMPUTER > C: > PROGRAM FILES (or Program Files x86) > ICLUBcentral > Toolkit6.
- Double-click on Toolkit6Updater. This should start the update process. If the update finishes, click the Done button, and Toolkit will start as normal.
If the desktop icons seem a bit small after this change, you can right-click on the desktop, choose View, and then choose a larger size icon.
Windows 8
- Exit the software.
- Right-click any open space on the desktop, and choose PERSONALIZE
- Near the bottom left-hand corner of the Personalize window, select DISPLAY
- On main part of the Display page, click to select Smaller - 100% (default)
- Windows will usually ask you to log out or re-start at this point. If it does not, click APPLY
Windows 8 also offers the ability to adjust the text size independently in several areas, such as Title bars, Menus, Message boxes, Palette titles, Icons and Tooltips. Adjusting the text in these areas can make a big difference in the places where adjusting the DPI would normally be the default option. You can see and adjust these settings by repeating the first three steps from above.
On the Display page, you'll see a " Change only the text size " option; testing with the drop-down menu, and text sizes can be very useful if certain areas on the screen are regularly a bit too small.
Windows 10
- Exit the software.
- Right-click any open space on the desktop, and choose DISPLAY SETTINGS
- On main part of the Display page, look for a slider with the title 'Change the size of text, apps, and other items.
- Click, and drag the slider to the left, until the percent size shows 100%, and then left go of the mouse button.
- Click the Apply
button.
- At this point, please restart the computer.
- When the computer comes back on, go to START > FILE EXPLORER > THIS PC > C: > PROGRAM FILES (or Program Files x86) > ICLUBcentral > Toolkit6.
- Double-click on Toolkit6Updater. This should start the update process. If the update finishes, click the Done button, and Toolkit will start as normal.
If the desktop icons seem a bit small after this change, you can right-click on the desktop, choose View, and then choose a larger size icon.
Adjusting the screen resolution, if the icons are still too small:
-In XP, Right-click on the desktop and choose PROPERTIES, then click the SETTINGS tab.
-In Vista, Right-click on the desktop, choose PERSONALIZE, then click DISPLAY SETTINGS.
-In Windows 7 and Windows 8, Right-click on the desktop, choose SCREEN RESOLUTION.
-In Windows 10, Right-click on the desktop and choose DISPLAY SETTINGS, then click ADVANCED DISPLAY SETTINGS, near the bottom of the window.
Regardless of your copy of Windows, you will now have a window showing your current screen resolution.
- In Windows XP and Vista, you will have a small slider bar
- In Windows 7 (or higher) you will see a drop-down menu.
Using the small slider bar, or drop-down menu, you can REDUCE the resolution to something smaller. (ie. 1280x1024 to 1024x768 or 800x600). Then click APPLY or OK. Changing this to a lower setting will have the effect of enlarging the text and icons you see on the screen. Since everyone is different, we suggest a bit of experimentation to find the resolution that fits you best. This will ensure that you can see everything on the screen, without having to worry about running into trouble the next time there's a Toolkit update.
If you have not recently done an update, it's possible that a piece of security software has removed or disabled the Toolkit Server program from your computer. In that case, the best thing will be to make a backup of your information, and re-install Toolkit
UNINSTALLING TOOLKIT
- Restart the computer (You may have done this once already, but we want to make sure there's nothing extra happening in the background while you're working)

- If you don't see anything with those extensions at the end, here's how to get the extensions to show up.
- In Windows 8 and 10: Click the View Tab, then click the 'File name extensions' check-box.
- For XP and Windows 7: Click on Tools at the top of your screen. Then click Folder Options.

- Minimize the window
- Right-click on the Desktop, and choose PASTE
The database file is usually named TK.mdb If you have made a copy of it at some point, the file may have a series of numbers as part of the name. If you aren't sure, take the same steps for all .mdb and .ldb files.
- Once you have the files copied, it's time to uninstall Toolkit.
BEFORE YOU RE-INSTALL, PLEASE TURN OFF ANY ANTIVIRUS/FIREWALL/SECURITY SOFTWARE
Most security software on currently available will show a small icon in the lower-right hand corner of your computer screen.
If you right-click on this icon, it should show available options. In the short term, we suggest to turn off the software temporarily, if possible; many programs will have an option to disable themselves for a few minutes at a time.
For a longer-term solution, we suggest to check with the help / support team for your security program and asking if there is a way to set the security program to recognize Toolkit6Server.exe as a safe, or non-hostile program.
