An error occurred while updating the price for STOCK NAME (TICKER). The price was not updated.

When attempting to retrieve price updates, following error box appears:

An error occurred while updating the price for STOCK NAME (TICKER). The price was not updated.

Possibles problems for this are:

  • One or more companies being updated are not in the database.
  • You may be trying to update more companies than the service can handle

In the first case, the best course of action will be to first check an online finance site to make sure that the stock is still listed, and what their ticker symbol is. If the stock has been de-listed, is currently listed as a pink sheet stock, (PNK), or as trading Off The Board (OTB), the price serivce we use may not keep current prices for the stock

The second case is rarer, but if you are using the Yahoo! price option in Toolkit, they will sometimes limit the number of stock price updates in a single request. Usually this limit is set high, at 300, but we have seen cases where the number will be set as low as 200. If that might be the case, we would suggest to separate your stocks into separate portfolios; you can then use the Update Portfolio Prices option for the individual portfolios, so long as they are within the two to three hundred stock limit
