Backup and reinstall of Toolkit 6 when the program cannot be opened.

As of September 1, 2023, Toolkit 6 is no longer supported by ICLUBcentral and BetterInvesting support. Please transition your Stock Selection Guides to BetterInvesting's Online Stock Tools Suite.

The steps listed below are for making a manual backup of Toolkit data, and reinstaling the program in cases where it will not open. If your copy of Toolkit can still be opened, we strongly suggest to use the FAQ on making a backup of your data usng the built in backup tool in the program.

Backing up your data

  1. Restart the computer (You may have done this once already, but we want to make sure there's nothing extra happening in the background while you're working)
  2. Once the computer comes back on
    • In Windows 10 and Windows 8: Hold down the Windows key on your keyboard, and tap the letter X. From the menu that comes up, then left-click File Explorer.
    • For Windows Vista and Windows 7: Go to START > COMPUTER
  3. This will open a window showing all of the drives your copy of Windows know about.
Open the C: drive (also sometimes called Local Disk C). From there, open PROGRAM FILES (or Program Files x86, if available)> ICLUBCENTRAL > TOOLKIT 6
  4. In the Toolkit folder, look for any files that have .mdb and .ldb at the end.
  5. If you don't see anything with those extensions at the end, here's how to get the extensions to show up.
    • In Windows 8 and Windows 10: Click the View Tab near the top of the Window, then click the 'File name extensions' check-box.
    • For Windows 7: Click on Tools at the top of your screen. Then click Folder Options.
    • In Windows Vista: Click on Organize at the top of your screen, then click Folder and Search Options.
    • ----For Vista, and Windows 7, This will open a new window. Click the View tab in this new window, then look down the list for Hide Extensions for Known File Types. Uncheck it and click OK. You should now see the extensions .mdb and .ldb on some of the files.
  6. Once you have the files showing, take the following steps:
    - Right click on the file, and choose COPY
    - Minimize the window
    - Right-click on the Desktop, and choose PASTE
The database file is usually named TK.mdb If you have made a copy of it at some point, the file may have a series of numbers as part of the name. If you aren't sure, take the same steps for all .mdb and .ldb files.

Removing Toolkit6

  1. Once you have the files copied, it's time to uninstall Toolkit. Windows may ask you about removing several files during this process. If so, you can save time by using the check-box that says to use the same choice for all options, and then clicking YES.
