Support for Stock Prospector

Stock Prospector has been discontinued.

Thank you for your interest in ICLUBcentral's Stock Prospector software. As of April 11, 2013, Stock Prospector has been discontinued and is no longer being sold. If you are looking for a product that will assist you in searching for stocks that meet your custom criteria, please consider our new online stock search tool, includes nearly all of the features of Stock Prospector for Windows, but in an easy-to-use web-based format.

Technical support for Stock Prospector for Windows will end on May 1, 2014. Data for Stock Prospector will continue to be provided to subscribers through the StockCentral or BetterInvesting data services at least through that date.

How can I share my custom queries and reports with others?

When you define custom screening and report items, you have the option to save them for later use. These saved items are placed in the Prospector database file. You will need to export them to a file outside of Prospector if you want to share them with others.

  • First, make sure that the query you want to export is the one currently being used by Stock Prospector (Either by going through the WIZARD, or by using one of the more defined queries under CRITERIA.
  • Once this is done, go to FILE > EXPORT QUERY TO FILE
  • Make sure to give the file a name.
  • Make note of where the file is being saved. ICLUBcentral suggests saving the file to your desktop or Documents folder, as they are easy to find, and commonly used by other programs.
  • Click SAVE to save the file on your computer. This will create a .qdf file on your computer that any copy of Stock Prospector can then import.

Error message: "Unable to unzip data, corrupt zip archive."

This is most commonly due to an interruption in your connection to the Internet while you were downloading the company data.

This could be for a number of reasons. One common thing we see is that an Internet connection timed out -- if this is possible, we suggest to either monitor the download so that your Internet connection stays active or adjust your time-out settings so that you have enough time to download the file without the connection shutting down.

Here's how to delete your temporary Internet files so you can download again from scratch:

  3. Click DELETE FILES.
  4. Next, select START > MY COMPUTER and go to C:\Program Files\ICLUBcentral\Stock Prospector\NAICDATA\
  5. Delete the file called COMPANY.ZIP by clicking on it once and pressing the DELETE key on your keyboard.

Open up Stock Prospector and import the file again.
