Important Update to Take Stock

ICLUBcentral has released a very important update to our Take Stock software program. You must follow these instructions to download and install the update to your current software program.

This update changes the data source in the program to use the StockCentral data feed. StockCentral's data is provided by Morningstar, Inc., and provides up to ten years of historical fundamental company data, including fully normalized earnings per share figures.

With this change in Take Stock, the program now uses the same data that is used in the Complete Roster of Quality Companies, the StockCentral Stock Screener, and the online version of Take Stock at StockCentral.com. The Take Stock Quality Ratings and other calculated values will now match among all of these ICLUBcentral products. The superior data provided by Morningstar is also used to generate *.SSG data files for use in stock analysis software programs such as Investor's Toolkit, and is also provided for the Take Stock software program. Visit StockCentral.com for more information on the tools and data available from that site, or to sign up for a free 45-day trial.

Please note: This Take Stock update is not optional! The current S&P Data will be no longer available after April 18, 2008.

Complete instructions for updating your software are available on the CLUB.com web site. Please follow these instructions carefully. In order to update your program properly, you first must determine which version of Take Stock you own, and follow the instructions accordingly. (Note: the online version of Take Stock at StockCentral.com is not affected by this update.

Join the Club!

By Amy Rauch Neilson

I spent seven years as a part-time professor of English and Writing at a local community college, teaching freshmen composition. The Number One question my friends and family would always ask me was: How do you get over the stage fright of public speaking? My answer? You just force yourself to do it, day in and day out, and eventually, you get over it. The second most frequently-asked question was: What do you do when a student raises his or her hand and asks you a question you don't know the answer to? I point out that it's a great question, admit that I don't know, and tell him or her that I will look it up and return with the answer by the next class period. I'm going to do something along those lines right here, right now, beginning with this column.

When I began writing Join the Club! a few months ago, the very first question I received was from ICLUBcentral member Kennedy Greenaway, who posted this question in response to my Welcome message: Can you give me some pointers on being a really, really good treasurer? I can't, I told him. Though I was a member of the KIX Investment Club a while back, I never held the office of club treasurer. But I do know some experts who can, and they just happen to be a part of the ICLUB team. During the next few weeks, I'll be consulting with these experts and relaying their top tips for terrific club treasurers -- insights that hopefully will make your job a lot easier, whether you're an experienced club treasurer or brand-new to the job.

The first tips are from expert Gene Rooks, who took over as club treasurer of the Southern Women Investing Money Club in Orlando, Fla., in 2003. Gene has also served as an Accounting Instructor for the BetterInvesting, Inc.'s Space Coast Chapter and currently serves as one of ICLUBcentral's volunteer club accounting advisers and a member of the beta test team for Club Accounting 3 and myiclub.com. She shared a total of 11 tips with me and said, "If all club treasurers could get on this page, we wouldn't have anything to do on the Treasurer forums." Here are the first five:

  1. Know where to go for help, and don't be reluctant to do so....

ICLUBcentral on the Road

Held this year at the Doubletree Hotel at 10100 College Blvd., Overland Park, Kansas, the Silver Anniversary Investors Fair will feature a luncheon with Doug. During the same weekend, Friday, April 25th to Saturday, April 26th, visit ICLUBcentral's Finance and Operations Manager, Annie Walsh, at the Minneapolis/St. Paul Investors Fair. Held at the Earle Brown Hertitage Center, 6155 Earle Brown Drive, Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, the Investors Fair will feature corporate presentations; software demostrations; educational classes; and interesting presenters, including luncheon speaker Bob Adams from the Puget Sound Chapter.

We look forward to seeing you there! Present a copy of this email with your name and email address written on it at ICLUBcentral's booth to be entered in a special prize drawing!
