By Amy Rauch Neilson

If you had to guess, what would you say is one of the biggest reasons that one in four investment clubs disband within the first 18 months? Would it be because:

  1. Members decided that it was too much work
  2. Their portfolio wasn't performing to expectations
  3. Members had trouble meeting on a consistent basis

What if I told you that, though all of the above reasons are valid, there's also a more insidious reason why clubs split up? You've probably guessed it by now: personality conflicts. When club members have trouble seeing eye-to-eye or one or two members dominate the group - it can threaten a club's existence.

ICLUBcentral Customer Support Update

In observance of Independence Day, the ICLUBcentral Customer Support department will be closed Friday, July 4th and will resume operations on July 7th. You may submit any questions using our web form during this time, and we'll reply as soon as we can.

We apologize for any inconvenience and hope you enjoy your 4th of July holiday.

Hello and Goodbye

We are happy to welcome Alexis Pope to ICLUBcentral as our Finance and Operations Manager. Lexi earned her B.A. in Anthropology (with a minor in Art History) at the University of Massachusetts. A native of Cape Cod, she has worked as an office administrator, bookkeeper, and accounting assistant for financial companies and non-profit organizations. Lexi left a life of corporate drudgery to work at ICLUBcentral, and her many and varied interests include cooking, painting, scuba diving, travel, and backpacking. Welcome, Lexi!

As excited as we are to welcome Lexi aboard, we're just as sad to bid farewell to Annie Walsh, our previous Finance and Operations Manager (who, coincidentally, had earned a BA in Anthropology). Annie is returning to college to work towards a Masters in Business Administration degree and the next phase of her career. We wish her well; everyone in the office (with just one exception, and he knows who he is) will also be missing the lovely Smokey!

In our Customer Support department, we also have another change of staff. John Strickland, one of our seasoned support team members, is moving to Chicago (for reasons related to love, as we understand it, so we can hardly fault him for leaving). We appreciate his hard work over the last couple of years and extend our best wishes in his new home.

Finally, without hardly giving John's chair a chance to get warm, we are happy to welcome Joe Timmons to our Customer Support team. Joe was a double major at the University of Rochester in Political Science and Psychology (funny, you don't often see that combination together). His technical support experience comes from many years at the New Hampshire Sweepstakes Commission; his customer support experience comes from working as a catering manager and bar captain. We welcome Joe and hope that he finds catering to our customers to be just the ticket -- scratch that -- a winning proposition.
