What's on Your Investment Club's Watch List?
One of the keys to successful long-term investing is knowing the right price at which to buy high-quality growth stocks for your portfolio. Market corrections or overall downturns, where the prices of nearly all stocks decline, can provide opportunities to add shares of well-managed companies to your holdings at significant discounts.
In last week's Investment Club Operations webinar, ICLUBcentral President Doug Gerlach discussed the value of maintaining a watch list of stocks for your investment club. The companies on this list are those that the club previously studied and found to meet their criteria for growth and quality but were considered overvalued at the then-current share prices. By regularly maintaining and updating this list, clubs are ready to move quickly when market conditions create an opportunity to purchase these companies at attractive valuations.
Some of the strategies that Doug discussed in the webinar including using the Watch List feature of myICLUB.com, assigning one member to be your club's official "Watch List Watcher," and putting a "Watch List Review" item on the agenda of each club meeting.

When to Buy a Stock in the Investor Advisory Service

Charles B. is a subscriber to the Investor Advisory Service, and he recently wrote me to ask, "I think I heard in a past webinar that you had advised to only consider the stock highlighted that month when making new buys for one's portfolio. Do you still feel that is the best way to use IAS, or should every stock in the list with a "Buy" indicator in the Company Sorts listings be considered when making new buys for one's portfolio?"
Each month, we feature three companies in the Investor Advisory Service with in-depth profiles. These are the only official purchase recommendations that we make for subscribers.
However, we recognize that subscribers may not find any of those three companies suitable for their personal portfolios. The companies may not fit with the existing holdings in an investor's portfolio diversification plan, or may not fit within the investor's equity risk tolerance levels, or they may prefer to avoid certain industries. On top of that, it may not be practical or affordable to buy shares of additional stocks each and every month....
